The Brevard Zoo

Come answer the call of the wild at the Brevard Zoo. This establishment was built by the blood and sweat of the hard-working community of Brevard County and has since become a leader in wildlife conservation.
The Brevard Zoo is divided into separate corners of the world and is the 56+ acres are home many different creatures from the elegant Giraffes of the plains of Africa to the vicious Alligators of Florida’s swamp lands.
This is a zoo for the adventurous with up close and personal Kayak tours that put you in with the animals, close enough to reach out and feed them. That’s right, visitors can feed the friendly inhabitants or watch the excitement of the daily feeding of the alligators.
So come out, bring the family and experience the thrill of the wild. You just might learn a thing or two.
General Information
A new zoo with big plans for the future!
Built by the community, this small zoo has grown into a conservation leader and important destination for tourists. Our ground-breaking education programs are models for zoo's around the United States.
The zoo is divided into several unique habitats:
- Expedition Africa: Hand-feed giraffe from the observation platform overlooking our newest exhibit. Guided kayak trip through rhino and giraffe habitat are available on a first-come basis for $5 per person.
- Wetlands Outpost Kayaking: Our Wild Florida habitat features this rustic Observation Outpost & Dock overlooking the zoo's 22 acre restored wetlands exhibit along with educational, guided kayak trips for just $5 per person.
- Train Ride: 10 minute ride past the Australian aviary and around Lemur Island; cost $3 for ages 2 and up. A portion of each ride benefits the zoo's conservation programs.
- Paws On Animal Study Zone: Paws On is a unique multi-leveled interactive playground for children and adults.
- Animal Encounters Contact Yard: Get up-close and hands-on with a variety of domestic animals in the contact yard - located in Paws On.

- Admission Prices:
- Adults - $10.50
- Seniors (60 & up) - $9.50
- Children (2-12) - $7.50
- Children under 2 - FREE
- Group rates (minimum 15):

- Wheelchair and Stroller Rentals:

- Alligator and Crocodile Feeding:
Alligator and Crocodile feedings are at 3:00 p.m. every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday and can be seen from the bridge to Wild Florida.
- Vulture Feeding:
Vulture feedings are at 12:00 noon daily in the La Selva loop.
- River Otter Feeding:
River Otter feedings are at 2:00 p.m. every Tuesday and Saturday at the otter habitat in Wild Florida.
- Management:
Owned by the ECZS, a private not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation, Managed by a staff of trained professionals.
- Accreditation:
Accredited by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association in March 1997.
- Site:
56+ acres located at the SE corner of I-95 and Wickham Road, north of Melbourne, Florida; 28 acres have been developed to date.
- Animal Collection:
Over 550 animals representing 165 different species from Latin America, Wild Florida, Asia, Australia and Africa.
- Amenities:
Brevard Zoo is handicapped accessible with wheelchair & stroller rentals. FREE parking, snack bar, gift shop, picnic tables.
- Serengeti Special Events Pavilion:
This spacious pavilion seats 250-300 and is available for rental for private parties, company picnics, weddings, and more. Special Animal Presentations can be arranged.
- Park Rental:
The entire zoo may be rented for after-hours events. Special Animal Presentations can be arranged.
- Volunteers:
Over 300 participants volunteer in the docent program, gift shop, office and for special events.
- Counties Served:
Brevard, Indian River, Volusia, Orange, Osceola, and St. Lucie.
- Education Programs:
Special programs for school field trips; outreach to schools; off-site programs at remote sites, weekend classes, pre-school on-site programs, overnight educational parties, spring and summer camps.
- Zoo School:
Innovative award-winning program providing full-time education on the zoo premises for fifth grade students from Melbourne's Sherwood Elementary School. The program is being expanded to include two new area schools - Cambridge Elementary and Endeavor Elementary.
