The Indian River Lagoon is more than a body of water; it is an intercoastal sanctuary to thousands of mammals, birds and fish. Its waters are full of aquatic species such as the West Indian Manatees, Bottlenose Dolphins, numerous types of rays and an occasional alligator. However, the natural wonders of the Indian River Lagoon are not just limited to the water. There are numerous Islands throughout the lagoon that are home to some 300 species of birds including 14 threatened or endangered species.
